Overview

This 6-night, 7-day private circuit links the cultural gateway of Guwahati with the highlands of the Khasi and Jaintia Hills. Rather than rushing between viewpoints, the route establishes bases in Shillong, Cherrapunji, and Jowai to showcase sacred forest groves, deep river canyons, living root bridges, and turquoise waterfalls without unnecessary road backtracking.

Day 1: Arrival in Guwahati – Kamakhya Temple – Shillong

• Travel Time / Distance: Approx. 100 km | 3–3.5 hours

• Arrive at Guwahati Airport or Railway Station, meet your private chauffeur, and begin your journey.

• Visit Kamakhya Temple, an ancient Shakti Peetha located atop Nilachal Hill.

• Ascend the hills toward Shillong via NH6.

• En Route Stop: Umiam Lake for panoramic photography and views of pine-forested waters.

• Arrive in Shillong, check in to your hotel, and enjoy an evening at leisure.

• Overnight: Shillong.

Day 2: Shillong Regional Sightseeing (Canyons & Sacred Forest)

• Travel Time / Distance: Approx. 60–70 km total day exploration

• Depart after breakfast for full-day regional sightseeing:

  • Laitlum Grand Canyon: Take in sweeping views overlooking deep mountain gorges and the valley of Rasong.

  • Mawphlang Sacred Forest: Embark on a guided walk through an ancient virgin grove preserved by Khasi tribal customs.

  • Don Bosco Museum: Explore regional indigenous art, musical instruments, and cultural artifacts.

  • Ward’s Lake: Stroll around the historic landscaped lakeside gardens.

  • Police Bazaar: Spend the evening browsing local bazaars and dining spots.

Day 3: Shillong – Cherrapunji Sightseeing

• Travel Time / Distance: Approx. 55 km | 2 hours

• Check out post-breakfast and drive south toward Cherrapunji (Sohra).

• Mawkdok Dympep Valley: Stop at the cliffside viewing decks overlooking the expansive gorge.

• Wei Sawdong Falls: Visit the secluded three-tiered waterfall basin (subject to seasonal trail conditions).

• Continue into Cherrapunji, check in to the hotel, and take in the afternoon plateau scenery.

Day 4: Cherrapunji Local Sightseeing

• Dedicate the entire day to the geological landmarks of the Sohra plateau:

  • Nohkalikai Falls: View India’s tallest plunge waterfall dropping into a green pool.

  • Arwah Cave: Walk the stone pathway through forest to reach cavern chambers bearing prehistoric marine fossils.

  • Seven Sisters Falls: Admire the wide limestone cliff viewpoints.

  • Mawsmai Cave: Walk through illuminated limestone corridors and natural formations.

• Overnight: Cherrapunji.

Day 5: Cherrapunji – Dawki – Mawlynnong – Jowai

• Travel Time / Distance: Approx. 130 km | 4.5–5 hours

• Check out after breakfast and descend toward the plains along the international border.

• Dawki & Umngot River: Visit the border outpost and see the clear waters of the Umngot River (optional boat rides payable locally).

• Mawlynnong Village: Walk the clean paths and visit the community-led village.

• Drive into the West Jaintia Hills toward Jowai for check-in.

• Overnight: Jowai.

Day 6: Jowai Excursion (Krang Suri & Phe Phe Falls)

• Travel Time / Distance: Approx. 60–80 km day excursion

• Spend the day exploring the cascades of the Jaintia tablelands:

  • Krang Suri Falls: Marvel at the wide curtain of water pouring into a turquoise-blue basin.

  • Phe Phe Falls: Discover a peaceful, two-tier cascade hidden within lush terrain.

• Return to Jowai in the late afternoon for an evening at leisure.

Day 7: Jowai – Shillong Departure

• Travel Time / Distance: Approx. 65 km | 2–2.5 hours

• Check out after breakfast and drive through the Khasi-Jaintia Hills back to Shillong.

• Drop-off in Shillong at your hotel, transit hub, or designated location (with time for last-minute shopping at Police Bazaar based on onward schedules).
